Woman dies in Smithfield home fire
Firefighters say they saw flames coming through the back window when they arrived. Officials tell us life-saving efforts were not enough to save a woman who was inside.
Posted — UpdatedSMITHFIELD, N.C. — A fire blazed through a home in Smithfield, killing a woman and forcing two others out of their home overnight.
The home is a duplex on North Sussex Drive.
Firefighters say they saw flames coming through the back window when they arrived. Officials said life-saving efforts were not enough to save a woman who was inside.
Two other people and a dog were able to make it out of the house without injury.
The Red Cross is now assisting that family.
