WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A woman died Thursday when her car crashed into a creek and overturned.

Emergency crews responded to Ligon Mill Road near Song Sparrow Drive, south of Wake Forest, before 12:30 a.m.

Officials at the scene said the driver was going too fast around a curve, crashed into a guardrail and went over the side into the creek, where the car landed upside down.

When she hit the guardrail, it split in half, and a section flew into the air over nearby power lines.

Only one car was involved. There was no one else inside the car with the 23-year-old driver.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office, Wake Forest Police Department and State Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
