SELMA, N.C. — A woman was charged with murder after a woman was stabbed to death Thursday night in Selma.

Deanna McNeill, 29, was charged with the murder of 53-year-old Joyce Helena Davis.

Davis’ family said she was allowing McNeill to stay in her house on Godwin Street.

The two got into an argument about electricity costs when Davis was stabbed twice in the stomach, Davis’ daughter Joyce Rodgers said.

Selma police confirmed Davis suffered multiple stab wounds. A 911 call came in at 11:14 p.m.

Davis’ daughter Jackie Davis found her mother lying on the kitchen floor after the stabbing.

"My mom was a good person," Jackie Davis said. "She's my everything."

McNeill’s boyfriend, Brian Morgan, was in the house at the time of the stabbing.

He said punches were thrown in the fight and said McNeill could have stabbed Joyce Davis in self-defense.

Morgan was injured in the incident.
