WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A woman and her 6-year-old son were killed in a crash along Highway 98 in Wake Forest around noon on Saturday, and investigators said her husband was driving.
A spokesperson with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a white Mercedes SUV and a white GMC Sierra truck crashed near Moores Pond Road and ended up in a family's front yard. The homeowner rushed out to the crash and found Julie Abraham, 41, and her son, Nicholas Abraham, 6, dead.

An investigation revealed that the husband and father to the victims was driving the Mercedes.

The family in the Mercedes was from Durham. Two other people, including a pregnant woman who was in the GMC Sierra, were injured in the crash.

A third vehicle was struck by flying debris but was not involved in the crash, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Charges are pending against the husband, according to troopers.

Officials said the road reopened around 2 p.m. Saturday.
