WILMINGTON, N.C.EDITOR'S NOTE: Charges against Linda Mae Everett – three counts of felony breaking and entering – were later dismissed.

A North Carolina woman accused of trying to abduct a baby from a hospital was released from jail Monday night, but will wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Police said Linda Mae Everett snuck into New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s children’s hospital last month in an attempt to steal a newborn.

Everett claimed she was there to distribute bibles to the new babies and their families.

In her first court appearance Monday, prosecutors pointed out that Everett has already been banned from numerous hospitals in North and South Carolina for several incidents. She was also arrested in Georgia on fraud charges.

As part of her pre-trial agreement, Everett is banned from visiting hospitals.
