Fayetteville police arrest man who allegedly abducted a woman and her baby at gunpoint

A man has been arrested and charged with abducting a woman and her baby Friday afternoon in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man has been arrested and charged with abducting a woman and her baby Friday afternoon in Fayetteville.

The offender in the abduction case has been identified as Damien Antwon Evans Jr., 21.

Witnesses told police they saw the man arguing with Shalen Felder, 22, in the area of Second Street and Lynn Avenue. The man then fired shots and took Felder in a dark-colored, small crossover SUV.

Police said Evans fired a gun into the air as an intimidation tactic to ensure Felder got into the vehicle. The victim was not harmed by the shots that were fired.

She was found safe with her infant daughter in Surf City.

Evans has been charged with the following crimes:

  • Two counts of first-degree kidnapping
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present
  • Communicating threats
  • Interfering with 911 communications

Police said Evans and the victim were involved in a relationship at the time of the incident.

Felder is in the process of being reunited with her loved ones.

The incident is under investigation.
