With spring still two weeks away, cooler temperatures are persisting in the Triangle.

According to WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss, some areas saw freezing temperatures Monday morning, and highs for the day will only reach the low or mid 50s.

Hour-by-hour forecast

"It looks like winter again," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "And it look like it will stay that way. Looking at the seven-day forecast, we have temperatures below normal every day except for one."

According to Gardner, there is a greater than 50 percent chance that temperatures will be just as cold next week, March 12-18.

7-Day Forecast

Tuesday will be cooler, with highs only in the upper 40s and a good chance for some rain midday. Apart from Tuesday, the week will be fairly bright and dry, and any rain that does fall should be light.

The rest of the week will mimic Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the 50s and partly cloudy skies. It won't get much warmer until the weekend, as Saturday and Sunday are expected to see temperatures in the low 60s.

When will it finally feel like spring -- and stay that way? "It usually isn't until the first week of April that we see the last spring freeze," said Gardner.
