Food Lion opened a brand new store in the Clayton area and to celebrate, they donated a $200 gift card to give to a reader here on the Smart Shopper blog!

As you can see in the slide show, there were well over 100 people who came out for the Grand Opening on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

During the Grand Opening event, Food Lion gave away $10 gift cards to the first 100 people in line. They are also giving away $10 gift cards to the first 100 customers each morning through Saturday, October 22!

In addition to the gift cards, the store gave away recyclable Food Lion grocery bags and lemon juicers and offered in-store samples on Wednesday morning.

Customers were also treated to a lovely performance from the McGee's Crossroads Middle School Band and County Commissioner Cookie Pope welcomed the store to the area.

Food Lion also donated $500 each (the equivalent of 5,500 meals), to the food pantries located at West Johnston High School and Lighthouse Christian Fellowship.

During the Grand Opening week, the Clayton area stores are also offering grocery specials including chicken breast for $1.69/lb, grapes for .99/lb, canned vegetables for 3 for $1 and more. To see the special Grand Opening deals for the week, click the Food Lion Deals link above.

This new store features Food Lion's newest format, making it easier to navigate so customers can get in and out more quickly. It also features a walk-in produce cooler that keeps produce fresher, longer. Additional features of the new store include:

* A dedicated gluten-free section

* A growing selection of Nature's Place beef, pork and poultry items free from unwanted ingredients
