I'm WRA meteorologist Kat Campbell. Get ready to bundle up for the weekend. 48 degrees Saturday, just 40 for the high Sunday. And Sunday morning we are right back in the 20s for our low temperatures. It's also going to be pretty blustery on Saturday, so prepare for a wind chill that's going to feel more like the low 40s during the afternoon. Hour by hour though, let's talk about Sunday. That's really going to be the cold day, 24 at 6 a.m. by noon, just 36 degrees. We're talking. Full sunshine but still struggling to get out of the 30s much of the day. 40 degrees to high at 4 o'clock and once we get to 8 o'clock, we're back down to freezing. Some upper level energy moving through behind the showers that clear out tonight. We've got the cold air rushing in from the Northwest. By Sunday morning, 19 in Roxboro and South Hill, 23 in Raleigh and Durham, as well as Rocky Mount, 25 for Fayetteville and Clinton. Check out Monday morning though, even colder. in Roxboro, 17 in South Hill, 19 Durham and Southern Pines, 18 in Rocky Mount, 20 in Raleigh and 22 in Fayetteville. It's going to be cold for Christmas Eve. A nice festive chill in the air. Highs are going to be in the lower 50s. It's partly cloudy and heading into Christmas Day and the first night of Hanukkah should be a beautiful day, mostly cloudy highs in the low to mid 50s, but we will have rain chances creep in Wednesday evening and Wednesday night. Tuesday we could see a little bit of rain in the southeastern part of our state closer to the coast. That's a new trend that we'll continue to watch. But Wednesday evening, you can see by the time we get to 78 o'clock, rain chances climb a bit. It should be pretty light rain and that could linger into Thursday. Here's the thing though, it's just going to be rain, no snow in the forecast. The chance of a white Christmas, 0% town by town for everyone unfortunately this year. Looking ahead after our chilly weekend, we're still at 43 for the high Monday, 51 Tuesday, 54 Wednesday, and the rain chances ramp up a little bit toward the end of the week. That could have an impact on holiday travel, but the timing and the intensity of the rain still in question this far out. So definitely stay tuned for updates.

Grimsley High School and Rolesville High School's football teams are set to address the media following the conclusion of the 2024 NCHSAA 4A football state championship.

<p>All right, these are our 4A East champions 4A runners up, great season, a lot to be proud of, a lot of fight. We love to see guys not quitting out there and it was obvious that you guys aren't gonna quit. Coach, if you would give us an opening statement, and then we'll take some questions. Oh man, uh, what are you across the board on all different levels outside of the game of football, but, uh, in life, uh, like, like Brandon just said, you know, we didn't give up. We got these guys could have gave up a long time ago. We found out different obstacles in our life and different obstacles on this journey, but our guys persevered and they got to this point, so I'm very thankful for this group. We'll take questions now for the players first, please. Right, they're bringing a lot of pressure tonight. What, what uh you see out there and how are they getting to you tonight. Uh, they're definitely a good team. Uh, they, they match up well across the board and, uh, just fell their way tonight. And can you speak on the season that you guys have had this year? I, I know heading out this way, great season, but this is the way you want to go out and work. Yeah, I'm proud of every one of our guys, uh, man, just like coming up all four years through Roseville and some transfers, we've had a great season, ups and downs, but mostly ups and I just have the utmost respect for all these guys. They, um, they jumped out to a 14-0 lead. How big was it? You guys get stops and kind of get off chance and really get you guys back in the game. Uh, it was, it was real big, you know, really gave us that momentum that we needed cause they got out, they got out 14 and spirits was down, so we know we had to come out and stop them so our offense can get back rolling. Hey, did, did you feel once you got things rolling that these guys were gonna come back and win this thing? Oh yes, sir, for sure. I always feel like that. Uh, versus anybody, um, but, uh, unfortunately we couldn't get it done and Coach, can you talk a little bit about those two first, those first two sessions in the 3rd form. Momentum shift, so obviously twice. That get inside the box. Come away with no points and then. Get the ball back on at 40. So One call back. Those two back to back possessions after the late school. Oh, you know, anytime you get a moment of shift like that, it, it can definitely set you back a little bit. But the biggest thing is like I told my guys at halftime, don't flinch, no matter how bad we down if we up, don't flinch, keep fighting, keep doing what you have to do and control the controlables, you know, don't worry about the penalties and the things we can't control to do out play our four quarters of football and play around football. Do the best we can. And uh, but it definitely shifted a lot when when that happened, you know, we kind of, kind of light up, up to light out life on us a little bit, but we was able to ride behind each other and kind of put it back in, but, uh, been a great team over there. I can't even take my hat off to that team over there, man. For both the field goal attempts, the 1st half of 4th to 3. You know, that's gonna open the air the second half, uh, obviously we're just talking about that second possession there. Uh, any regrets those who feel no choices like that. I've been on Riley Daniels any day, you know, I, I, I trust him, you know, I, I trust what, um, we, we do, and then at the same time it's like. I'm, I'm a big stickle about not leaving points on the field, and I tried and tried and couldn't get it, but It is what it is, you know, um, but, um, no, I don't regret it. About the uh wishbone formation on that first goal the two. Any thoughts on that? We just got blown up. He got blown up in the middle. Um, you know, we saw something that we like. We thought we had it, but we got blowed up. So, you know, that's our bread and butter. We thought we had it and then. So yeah, I trust my guys. I trust my guys see I trust my OCIs. We just couldn't get it done. Way, what will you remember most about the season? Uh, just like earlier, just the guys, I mean. Just coming in early in the summer, early morning, just the, the tight bond I created with all the guys, um, records aside, I mean just the guys and the friendships, they're gonna last a while and just calling them up later when I'm older and just, I just love these guys. Uh And really the whole, like the whole season, like, like Brady said guys, because I transferred here earlier this year and it's, I feel like I've been here all 4 years. It's, it's just amazing guys to be around. It's amazing group. All around. Uh, coach, I mean, bringing it to a 21-17 game with that field goal, um, you know, what was kind of the feeling on the sideline at that point, you know, bringing it down to a four-point game. Continue to rally, you know, continue to get behind each other, continue to keep fighting to keep pushing, you know, don't get complacent, you know, even though the game was still at reach, but I tell her, hey, let's go out here and get stopped. Do we have to do because we come back and win the game, but Obviously that didn't happen, but again our guys just stayed up and try to do the best they could to keep fighting. I know late in that game their running back, their starting running back wasn't in there. Um, in terms of your defensive reaction, did that alter your game plan defensively, not seeing Sus in there, or was it pretty much the same? Hey, at the end of the day, B is the number one quarterback in the nation. Per for Blake and that's why he got that title. And I, I got, I have so much respect and love for their kid, and they, they ride behind the guy and they got it done, you know, when you, when you, when a guy go down, you make an adjustment to make a play that's what he did and that's how they got the victory. So yeah, I got trying to make adjustment as much as we could. We got some stops here and there, but again, when in doubt me they got a ball that you know you can trust them with, that's what they did. Gavin, I know you wish you could have been out there, but the third thing's going on, how important hasn't been for you to be around the guys in the last month. So it's really important for me. Um, they helped me pick me up when I'm down, and it's just been, we have such a tight bond with all the guys, and it means a lot to me. They've helped build me up and I've helped build them up throughout this whole process. And so I love them guys to death and I wouldn't trade them for anything. One more. Challenges of blocking Bryce Davis4 start going to Duke. I mean, you try to chip them sometimes. You try to throw him sometimes he's still got through, uh, which now says that player just how difficult it was to him. I said it last year. I say it again. He's a dog, you know, and when he last year when he first time he played him last year, got hurt. So he knew every time we played Roseville, he circled that date because he got vengeance. He had vengeance against us, but he's a, he's a ballplayer. Diaz, shouts out to him. He has a he get a great kid and a better even person. So that kid has a tremendous upside. I'm excited to see his future, but again, we tried our best to kind of contain them and slow them down and we did kind of the first half, but we knew at some point he's gonna try to, you know, give it his all because he didn't want to lose either. So, but, uh, OK, yeah, you can't take, you can't take his take nothing from that kid. He's a great, great player. OK, thank you guys very much. Congratulations on a great season. The Grimsley Wies coach, if you would give us an opening statement, then we'll take the question. Yeah, well, first of all, um, heck of a football game, um, really tough, competitive, hard fought game. Rose was a, a heck of a football team. We saw him earlier this year, obviously, but A lot of really good players and just super proud of our guys and how tough and how resilient they were tonight, suffered some injuries throughout the game, but they just continued to gut it up and find a way and they were really, really gritty and together and um like I said, you know, that's kind of been our our motto the last couple of weeks just trying to find a way to get it done. I thought we did that tonight against a really good football team, so I couldn't be more proud of them. Coach, 2 years ago, heartbreak elation, what's going through your mind right now? Yeah, well, I mean, you know, again, just kind of touching on what I said a minute ago, just proud of our football team and these guys here and all of them just, um, it's been a grind, it's been a long season and we were a little short a couple of years ago against a good New Bern team, but I mean our football programs more than just, you know, one night and um you know, it's just kinda As a family and a lot of those guys that were short a couple of years ago were here tonight, uh, cheering us on and, you know, they talked to us right there as we was coming off the field. So, um, you know, our, our football program is a brotherhood. It really is. I'm not just saying that and I'm happy we could get it done tonight because of all them guys being here with us. 128 yards rushing the night, two touchdowns. I know not night you want it, but how does it feel to go out over 6000 yards rushing over 110 touchdowns for a career and to and to finish it with a ring? How does that feel? It, it feels great. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I was able to, especially our class, I want to say that we we was going down as one of the best classes, uh. They came to Grimsley, so then to make the fact that I was able to make history, so I, I did as best as I could. The only, only small regret I was gonna have was not finishing, but you know, I put everything on the line for my team and they had my back, so he was able to come through with that ring. Mitch, given everything you've been through the past couple of years uh with the program, um, it's nice that you feel complete at night with the night. Yeah, yes, sir. We, we've been, we've been preaching this. Not all teams was able to even make it to the state championship, let alone we was able to make it twice and to overcome uh something like this is, is a great accomplishment. Brandon um they pulled it within like 7. The defense gets you back that stops you to feel like, listen, we got to put it away right now. I think you got a rush touchdown and he threw the last pass touchdown, but I think those stops because the I say like, all right, we got a score in there that I got the ball backboards. We got away. Yeah, I get big props to the defense, you know, they, they held him. To 17 points and you know that's not easy to do. So you know they've been working really hard and we they had our backs. So the time the opportunity they gave us to go down score, you know, we try to take advantage of those and we, we were able to on a certain, a few jobs but right saying but how big was it? They got two trips to the red zone. What time is it like 2 yard line and for those two trips and we came with. how big would that be that side of the ball. I mean, you know, we didn't, we know that we didn't really think about that of it, you know, they've had our backs all season, so it's time for us to pay it back tenfold, you know what I'm saying. We knew they was gonna get the job done. We just had to get a couple of stops for them, get them going, you know, that's, that's what this Crimson team's about having our brothers' backs and just, just being relentless, having no fear, having no doubt about what they're capable of. Every game, every big game this season, come up with big side tonight we have your mindset in the second half. I mean, just, just winning this game, doing anything I can to win this game. I mean, like Coach Brown, all the coaches, Coach Ridge, coach Meekens, you know, they preached us, you know what I'm saying. Nobody's bigger than a team. You don't gotta be a hero. You just gotta do what you have to do. And I mean, you know, God, God presented me with, with that, with a game today, so I'm blessed for that and just glad we got this win. I was on a coach in there Rockley. Talking about that For Series of injuries. Play Zelda. And in terms of losing the game is that. Reason based on Bran is the number one quarterback in the country. They went to their guy and he got it done. How you respond to that I would say really just all the hard work that the team put in, you know, I couldn't do it all by myself, so you know, just having a trust in my guys and you know just being able to have opportunity to take shots, you know, I trust my guys to make plays, so it's just really just a team thing, not really on me, but it's really just all the hard work we put in and the connections we have. Uh, phase on in terms of that run, rushing touchdown on that fake and go up the middle, uh, you know, what was the offensive line doing? What did you see from the Roseville defense and, uh, you know, what was the read and react on that point? Uh, really, you know, the roles of the defense, they were, it seemed like they, they had everybody down on the line, you know, they were just trying to push us back, but, you know, I tried to find a hole and just find a way to get into the end zone. Coach, Mitch went down late 3rd quarter, you're 21 to 17. What was your mindset? What were you thinking about? Right. You know, I mean, With him over there with me, that's not a good place, obviously, um, but You know, again, our football team's always more than one person. And um as as valuable as he is to our team, because he's been a workhorse for us the last 3 years, you know, I think these guys looked and said it's time for us to go and they stepped up, you know, at that point in time, we obviously put a lot on this guy's shoulders right here. And he became a big runner for us, um, which is something we don't want to do a lot. We had to have him do that down the stretch and then um the big pass play and Caden makes a huge, huge catch and double coverage. Um, then we hit, um, Hudson down the scene, which is a strike to him, and then Hudson makes a great play so. Um, you know, it's just the next guy up. It's just somebody different all the time for us. You can go back and watch every game and it's somebody all the time stepping up and making plays, and that's why I love these guys. It's just, you know, whatever we gotta do to get it done. Do you want to hit Hudson again against Rossville for another bomb? Oh yeah, I'm glad we had him back, you know, I knew he was gonna make a play sooner or later, so you know, just red and. Getting the ball in his hands. I know he's gonna make a play. And Price, you know, that's the game that you got hurt last year. You end up missing the rest of the season and if they had you, I still think probably would have gone a little further last year. How the feeling is that to kind of come back and do it against this team of the all teams, you know, it's great. I'm saying, being a team twice is no easy task in one year, you know what I'm saying? And I got, yeah, I got hurt that game, but I mean, just, just having a chance to end off the senior year with this win right here, I mean it means everything, you know what I'm saying, and facing adversity, I feel like it helped me out as a player, you know what I'm saying, just knowing you can't take things for granted and that helped us out tonight, you know what I'm saying? It just, it got hard, but we faced adversity and we, and we came out to win. Coaches, it seems like in North Carolina in the race, the momento kind of swings, so one team I will run about 60 years. I think I run 3 or 4 years. No grand believe you. Third time here in the last 2 or 3 years. How's it feeling now that it's your guys' time and you're kind of like the king of the hill, North Carolina? Well, I'm just, I'm really proud of our, our program as a whole. You know, we've been really consistent the last 6 years, you know, we were 1 point away in 2019. He's Forsyth beat us at our place in the regional final by a point. And um so. 4 regional finals in the last 6 years, 3 state championships in the last 5 years. It just speaks volumes to our staff, um, our community, our school from the top down. We have tremendous support from our administration, our booster club, and then these guys, um, you know, you got the number one player in the country, and he's like, what do you need me to do? You know, we got this guy over here who You know, he's scored, who knows how many touchdowns, 100+ touchdowns in his career, and then he's like, hey, I'll go down on kickoff team, you know, and then Bryce Davis playing special teams. Um, you know, all of our guys are just willing to sacrifice for what's best for our team, and it's been like that, and that foundation was laid several years ago, and now these guys just carried on. So this speaks volumes to our program. I'm really proud of everyone involved. Or more for the players, uh, coach would give me coach speak on this, so I ask you guys, uh, preseason rankings. So Roseville, Wayneton, Easter side, all these teams ranked above you guys. I think a lot of people may have count you out because of the T4 star receivers graduated, myself included. I won't give you coach talk, but OK, so, uh, how much should that kind of drive you people kind of count you out before the season, but that kind of affect how you guys per year? I think it brought us together, you know what I'm saying, having a chip on our shoulder like that, you know, this team, we're all brothers. We don't just say that for no reason. We have each other's back every time. So just, just having the whole state, you know what I'm saying, against us, that just makes us stronger as a team. Our whole life some people have been against me because of my size, so it didn't shock me when, when people all of a sudden say Grimy wasn't gonna be this, Grimley wasn't gonna be that, but at the end of the day, I knew what Grimley was about and, and I knew it was gonna finish. Yeah, it really just made us all feel like um. I just want to show everybody that, you know, two guys aren't gonna, you know, define us, so I probably just really brought us together as a team and just made us want to go out there and work even harder. I agree completely with these guys. I mean, um, it, it, it was a driving force and, um, you know, we're not a one year thing, you know, that doesn't mean we're going to win state championships every year, but we feel like we're gonna be in the conversation and we feel like that um no matter whoever graduates or You know, it's kind of the next guy, like we had a bunch of guys hungry to go out and prove that they were there and they were waiting. It was their opportunity. And you saw a bunch of them guys make plays a night, make plays throughout this entire season, and again it's just a credit to um you know, our core values and what our program is about. The Durham School Board is meeting on Thursday to discuss possible solutions for a staffing shortage of bus drivers. Earlier in December, the district said schools would operate on a four-day bus schedule, leaving parents and guardians responsible for taking their children to and from school, for at least one day out of the week into 2025.

Durham bus drivers are protesting staffing shortages they've experienced for months on Thursday outside of the Durham School Board meeting. Durham Public Schools moved to a rotating bus schedule in the beginning of December and will stay on it through the start of 2025 while it looks for alternative solutions.
