WILSONS MILLS, N.C. — The first chief of Wilson's Mills' police department resigned last week after nearly two years on the job.

Former Chief Steve Little handed in his resignation, effective immediately, on Nov. 12, officials said. Lt. Roy Aycock has been appointed interim chief.

Town officials said Little left for personal reasons. Commissioners had been concerned because Little also worked part-time at Johnston Community College.

Little was the first officer hired when Wilson's Mills formed its police force in February 2006.

The department has two full-time officers and one part-time officer.
