WILSON, N.C. — Wilson police responding to a call found a woman stabbed to death in her apartment late Friday night.

Police responded to a call at an apartment at 920 Gay Street about a quarter before 11 p.m.

Inside the apartment, they found Maria Micaela DeLeon-Rubio, 33, dead from knife wounds, officers said.

A short distance away, police found Marcos Rubio, of 2001 Wilco Blvd. in Wilson. He had apparently self-inflicted knife wounds, police said.

Rubio was transported to Wilson Medical Center and then to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Wilson police picked Rubio up from the hospital on Monday and charged him with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

Wilson police said they are continuing to investigate the killing.
