WILSON, N.C. — A woman who was taken from her house against her will early Wednesday was found and is safe, hours after she was abducted from the home she shared with the suspect, authorities said.

The man accused in the incident has been identified as Vashawn D. Tomlin, 42. He has been charged with second-degree kidnapping and felony breaking and entering, police said in a written statement. He was being held on a $75,000 bond and expected to make his first court appearance Friday, according to police.

According to police, Vashawn D. Tomlin, 42, forced himself into the home and took Latasha K. Mercer, 35, against her will.

Latasha K. Mercer, 35, was taken from her home in the 4000 block of Hart Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when Tomlin allegedly forced his way into the residence. She was not hurt during the incident, police said.

The couple was staying at the home but did not own it, a witness said.

A neighbor told WRAL News that the pair had been dating but broke up this week. Police did not confirm their relationship but said the incident was domestic related.

Around 8:45 a.m., police say Mercer contacted them from a convenience store at 319 Pender Street and said the woman was safe.

Tomlin was taken into custody without incident on Blount Street.
