WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson police officer was arrested early Monday on a drunken driving charge, police said.

Officer Anthony Armstrong III was in his own vehicle near the intersection of Forest Hills and Raleigh roads at about 1:30 a.m. Monday when another officer pulled up behind the vehicle, which was stopped in the road, police said.

Armstrong was off duty at the time, police said.

After an initial investigation, Armstrong was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and was taken to the Wilson County Detention Center. Tests administered there showed his blood-alcohol content was 0.11, which is above the state's 0.08 legal limit for being deemed under the influence.

Armstrong has been placed administrative duty pending an internal investigation, police said.
