Wilson man wanted in connection with fatal shooting turns himself in

Police said Friday they were searching for a Wilson man in connection with a shooting death in Fayetteville on Monday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting death in Fayetteville last month.

Officers responding to a reported shooting in the 6300 block of Raeford Road on Sept. 24, 2018, found a crashed vehicle near the intersection of Bingham Drive and McDougal Drive.

The driver, Justin L. Williams, 42, had been shot and died at the scene.

A 14-month-old inside the vehicle was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and was listed in good condition, police said.

On Friday, Lavaris Davarian Speight, 20, of the 2500 block of Brandon Circle in Wilson, turned himself in to authorities. Sepight is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault in the presence of a minor.

Speight was being held at the Wilson County Jail and was awaiting transfer to the Cumberland County Detention Center.
