Wiener Works shooting victim identified

Fayetteville police on Saturday identified the Wiener Works employee who was shot in the lower back during an attempted robbery Friday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police on Saturday identified the Wiener Works employee who was shot in the lower back during an attempted robbery Friday night.

Michael Whitt, 46, was in good condition at Cape Fear Valley on Saturday, police said.

Whitt told police he was coming in the back door of the restaurant when an unknown man approached him with a gun.

The thin, black man with dreadlocks fled in an older molder Chevrolet Caprice after the shooting at the restaurant, 6270 Yadkin Road, police said.

Anyone with information should call police.
