Why You Should Clean Your Dryer Vent Hose

Posted Updated

Who even looks at the dryer vent? I know I don't. It's a dusty place behind the dryer that I would prefer to ignore. HOWEVER: The Austin, Texas electrical experts at Pedernales Electric Cooperative make a good case for cleaning the dryer vent hose. They suggest cleaning the dryer vent hose two or three times per year. When there is lint blocking your dryer's vent, the dryer has to work harder and longer to dry your clothes, which means that it uses more energy to do its job. Also, since heat escapes from the hot dryer through the vent hose, cleaning out the vent hose improves the ratio of heat that is diverted from in the house to outside the house. This is handy if you are watching your air conditioning bill.
