RALEIGH, N.C. — There are plenty of locations where you can get a free COVID test this weekend in Wake County.

Even if you don't feel sick, you could still have the coronavirus.

Models suggest that about half of transmission events can be traced back to individuals still in this so-called pre-symptomatic stage, before they start to feel ill — if they ever feel sick at all.

For people who have mild or moderate symptoms, testing is important because those people can properly isolate themselves if they know they have the virus before spreading it to others.

"By quickly identifying individuals who are sick and isolating them, public health authorities can reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus," Johns Hopkins website says.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends you consult with your doctor before you get tested.
