DURHAM, N.C.After the State Historical Commission met Wednesday to decide the fate of three Confederate statues in downtown Raleigh, many are wondering what's next for the area's other monuments.
Silent Sam came down earlier this week at UNC when protestors pulled it to the ground, and, one year ago, a Durham statue was toppled, sparking a large march.

An empty pedestal stands in Durham where protesters tore down the statue last August. To decide the fate of monuments like that one, on Thursday evening, a joint city-county committee will meet. The committee was formed after the August protest that led to the monument toppling.

In the meetings, which are open to the public, the committee will form recommendations that will go to county commissioners.

The discussion begins at 7 p.m. at Durham City Council’s chambers at City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza, and more meetings are scheduled through October.
