RALEIGH, N.C. — A week that started covered in snow will end on another wet note. This time, it's rain that could cause problems for fans of high school football or Christmas shoppers making their rounds.

The eight games that will determine state football champions will be held Friday night and Saturday at Duke, UNC and North Carolina State universities, so rain in the Triangle means rain falling on the fans who are expected to pack the stands.

Before then, temperatures are on an up-swing, and central North Carolina should shed the final remnants of Sunday's snow.

The forecast high for Thursday is 48 degrees. Friday calls for a high temperature of 54 and Saturday for 60 degrees.

"Rain moves in by mid-day Friday, and it will rain most of the day once it gets started," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.

The chance for precipitation climbs to 90 percent in Raleigh late Friday night, and drops to 30 percent by Saturday evening.

"Scattered showers will remain possible through the weekend. We might have some flooding to contend with as some models point out some hefty rainfall amounts," Wilmoth said.

Saturday marks 10 days until Christmas, so many shoppers will be finishing getting gifts, and retailers are hoping for a busy weekend to make up for sales lost to the recent snow days.
