According to the Macy's Parade website, the WCU marching band is made up of 540 members and is led by band director David Starnes.

The band traveled 12 hours on 10 charter buses to get to New York City. More than 40 staff members and 300 parents accompanied them.

The band, known as the "Pride of the Mountains," made their debut in the parade in 2014. Ten other marching bands also participated this year.

In 2016, Cary High School's marching band marched in the parade.
