Police blocked traffic in Raleigh at the scene of a gas leak Wednesday.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Portions of Western Boulevard were closed to traffic for almost two hours Wednesday morning after a contractor hit a PSNC Energy gas line, police said.

Eastbound Western Boulevard was closed at Carolina Avenue, while westbound traffic was being diverted at Blue Ridge Road. A section of Powell Drive, which is where the gas main was cut, also was closed, police said.

Workers at one nearby building were asked to leave while crews handled the repair.

The gas leak was capped shortly before noon, and police reopened Western Boulevard to traffic. Traffic on Powell Drive was limited to one lane north of Western Boulevard because repair crews were still working in the area, police said.
