A person died from West Nile Virus in Cumberland County, becoming the first to die from the virus in North Carolina in 2022.
West Nile virus is by mosquitoes, which breed in warm water. The best prevention is to dump pools of standing water and to wear insect repellent.
WMBF reports South Carolina's Department of Health and Environmental Control said one person died from the West Nile Virus.
The Cumberland County Health Department announced it identified its first case of the West Nile virus disease, which is carried to humans through mosquitos.
West Nile virus has been identified in a New Hanover County resident. Lab results that came back on Wednesday confirmed the person had the virus.
