With 2019 coming to a close, it's time for a Festivus for the rest of us.

RALEIGH, N.C. — With 2019 coming to a close, it's time for a Festivus for the rest of us.

Paul Coble, who oversees operations at the Legislative Building, is a main target for the airing of grievances this year for moving the Capitol Press Corps office and inflating the estimated cost of fulfilling simple public records requests.

Meanwhile, candidate filing for the 2020 elections closed Friday, and a flurry of last-minute filings ensures voters will have choices in most legislative and all congressional races. The State Board of Elections also added two candidates, former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh and former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld, to the Republican presidential primary after the North Carolina Republican Party submitted only President Donald Trump's name for the ballot.

Elsewhere, the Superior Court judge who signed off on the $2.5 million deal between the University of North Carolina system and the Sons of Confederate Veterans regarding the future of the controversial "Silent Sam" monument said he wants a hearing as to whether the SCV could have legally been part of the agreement.
