I suspect most of you are getting ready to hunker down for a holiday weekend. I can't believe it's already here!

There are a few things going on if you're looking to get out of the house.

Carolina Ballet's Nutcracker continues with performances Thursday and Sunday at Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts. Tickets start at $20, though at last look on Wednesday evening, there weren't too many left.

Eno River State Park in Durham will host a holiday sing-a-long. It's Sunday afternoon. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call the park office at 919-383-1686 to reserve your spot. And stay tuned for more next week about Eno River State Park, home of a very popular, family-friendly New Year's Day hike.

The region's major light shows will close up in the next week or so. The last day for Lights on the Neuse in Clayton is Friday. Meadow Lights stays on until Dec. 31. Lake Myra Christmas has special shows Thursday and Friday with its last show on Dec. 31. Santa's Hayride has some special holiday hours through Christmas Eve. It will be open through Dec. 31.
The ice rink in downtown Raleigh is open all weekend. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday (with 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. stroller skating); 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Christmas; and noon to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
The synthetic ice rink at North Hills is open 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, but closed Christmas.
And the region's various museums and other favorite family spots have scaled back their hours for the weekend. Some are open for part of the weekend, others are closed for all of it. Check my earlier post for more information.

And that should do it for this weekend.

I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing holiday full of the kind of moments you'll remember for a lifetime. Thank you to you all for your support of Go Ask Mom over the past year. It's been a fun 2010 and we've got a lot planned for 2011!

Merry Christmas!
