Music and Comedy

The Great Cover Up 2020 (Kings, 14 W Martin St., Raleigh) - This yearly tradition includes more than 50 bands performing covers over six nights at Kings in downtown Raleigh. Things kick off this weekend and continue next weekend.
The Planets with the North Carolina Symphony (Meymandi Concert Hall at Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 East South Street, Raleigh) - Experience the ultimate trip through the galaxy as the symphony performs Gustav Holst's "The Planets" at Meymandi Concert Hall on Friday and Saturday.
Taylor Tomlinson (Raleigh Improv, 1224 Parkside Main Street, Cary) - Tomlinson has been featured on Conan, was a top 10 finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing and her stand-up special is currently streaming on Netflix. See her at Raleigh Improv Thursday through Sunday
The Steel Wheels (Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater, 2 East South Street, Raleigh) - Virginia-based acoustic roots music collective The Steel Wheels play Fletcher Opera Theater on Friday night.
Fanm d'Ayiti: Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet (UNC Hill Hall, Moeser Auditorium, 145 East Cameron Ave, Chapel Hill) - Flutist and composer Nathalie Joachim of Flutronix celebrates Haiti's most iconic yet under-recognized female artists through new musical arrangements and compositions during a show at UNC on Friday.
Appetite for Destruction (The Ritz, 2820 Industrial Drive, Raleigh) - This Guns N' Roses tribute band plays The Ritz on Friday night.They are the only full-time touring GNR tribute group.

Mutts & Marshmallows (WakeMed Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Dr., Cary) - Bring your dog to this 7th annual race on Saturday morning at WakeMed Soccer Park. Everyone who finishes the race gets a great mug, all the hot chocolate they can drink, and all dog entries go to support the SPCA of Wake County.
N.C. Chinese Lantern Festival (Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary) - Koka Booth Amphitheatre hosts this amazing display of luminary art through Jan. 12.
Union Special Bread // Sweet + Salt: A Bakery Pop-Up Series at The Durham (The Durham Hotel, 315 East Chapel Hill Street, Durham) - Popping up in Durham for one morning only, Andrew Ullom brings his pastries and breads from Union Special Bread in Raleigh to the Coffee Shop at The Durham on Saturday morning. It's part of this weekly pop-up bakery series.
Art Market Durham (Art Market Durham, 214 Hunt Street, Durham) - This weekly arts & crafts market features local, handmade artwork by Durham artisans.
MLK: Celebrating the Legacy through the Arts (W.D. Hill Recreation Center, 1308 Fayetteville Street, Durham) - Durham Parks and Recreation will host a program to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday.
Run for Young 5K (Christ Episcopal Church, 120 East Edenton St., Raleigh) - Run For Young is a family-friendly race with a mission to raise awareness for teen safety behind the wheel. The race is Sunday afternoon.
