RALEIGH, N.C. — Two large indoor events are happening this weekend in Raleigh.
GalaxyCon Raleigh (The Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S Salisbury St, Raleigh) - This four-day festival includes celebrities, creators, voice actors, cosplayers, entertainers, fan groups, gamers, panelists, streamers and more fun. The event will run July 29-Aug. 1 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Guests are stronger encouraged to wear masks.
Harlem Globetrotters "The Spread Game Tour" (PNC Arena, 1400 Edwards Mill Rd., Raleigh) - The Harlem Globetrotters will be at PNC Arena on Sunday. This show was originally scheduled for March 15 last year. Tickets for that show will be honored for Sunday's date.
Celebrate Cary (Downtown Cary, 100 W Chatham Street, Cary) - Cary will continue its 150th birthday celebration with this event at the Active Greenspace in downtown Cary on Academy Street on Saturday at 4 p.m. There will be family games and shows plus food trucks.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater in the Museum Park (N.C. Museum of Art), 2110 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh) - Enjoy an outdoor screening of this classic at the NCMA's Joseph M. Bryan, Jr., Theatre in Museum Park on Saturday night. Tickets are free for museum members and children ages 6 years and younger. Non-member tickets are $7 per person.
Ms. Pat (Raleigh Improv, 1224 Parkside Main Street, Cary) - Patricia Williams (aka Ms. Pat) is a comedian, author, podcaster, and actress. See her on stage Thursday through Sunday at Raleigh Improv.
Brian Posehn (Goodnight's Comedy Club/The Grille at Goodnight's, 861 W. Morgan St., Raleigh) - Brian Posehn may be a self-proclaimed nerd, but he's also the king of comedy cameos. With an IMDB page that reads like a laundry list of 1990s/early-2000s comedy TV shows and movies, Posehn garners a fanbase that turn up for his self-deprecating humor, awkward relatability and unapologetically nerdy views. See him at Goodnights Comedy Club Thursday through Saturday.
See an outdoor movie at DBAP -- Bring your little ones to watch Raya & the Last Dragon on July 31 at 7 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Gates open at 6 p.m. and you can sit in the stadium.
41st Annual Crape Myrtle Festival Grand Gala (CAM Raleigh - The Contemporary Art Museum, 409 W Martin St, Raleigh) - CMF's Grand Gala is their biggest fundraising event of the year. It will be held Saturday night at CAM Raleigh. There will be a cash bar, light hors d'oeuvres, music, art, and of course, a DRAG performance or two! CMF is a nonprofit that raises funds for HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ support organizations. Tickets are $50.
Songs for a New World (Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, 2 E. South St., Raleigh) - Songs for a New World is a sung-through musical, filled with original Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and Broadway-inspired songs connected by common theme: "The moment of decision." See this show at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium through Sunday. The show is also available for on-demand digital viewing Friday through Sunday.
Maks & Val: Stripped Down Tour (Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Meymandi Concert Hall, 2 E. South St., Raleigh) - This family-friendly show will feature "Dancing with the Stars" performers Maks and Val. See them on Saturday at Meymandi Concert Hall.
Nimesh Patel (Goodnight's Comedy Club/The Grille at Goodnight's, 861 W. Morgan St., Raleigh) - Nimesh Patel is a comedian and Emmy-nominated writer based in New York City, where he has performed stand-up comedy for more than 10 years. He is currently a writer on NBC's late-night show "A Little Late with Lilly Singh." See him on stage at Goodnights Comedy Club on Sunday night.
South Durham Summer Music Series (The Glass Jug, 5410 Highway 55, Durham) - Live music is returning to the beer garden at The Glass Jug. Enjoy a mix of local music paired with a visiting food truck Saturday evenings through October.
