Festivals and fun

GalaxyCon (The Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S Salisbury St, Raleigh) - This family-friendly pop culture festival will feature celebrity guests, comic book creators and more at the Raleigh Convention Center Thursday through Sunday.
TapCork: Durham Beer + Wine Fest (Durham Central Park, 502 Foster St., Durham) - Spend Saturday at Durham Central Park and taste a diverse variety of craft beers and fine wines from national and local brands. Tickets are $30, and proceeds will benefit the youth art initiatives of the Hayti Heritage Center.
MRG30 Festival (Cat's Cradle, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro) - Merge Records is turning 30 this year. The four-day festival will celebrate the best of Merge, both present and future, by featuring an amazing lineup of more than 30 bands.

Senior Dog Birthday Pawty (Trophy Brewing and Taproom, 656 Maywood Avenue, Raleigh) - Trophy Brewing will host this celebration of senior dogs at their Maywood Ave. location on Sunday. Pet an adoptable dog, sip on a beer and sign a senior dog birthday card. Trophy will donate 15 percent of sales to Hope Animal Rescue between 1 and 4 p.m.
Durham Bulls: Friday Night Fireworks (Durham Bulls Athletic Park, 409 Blackwell St., Durham) - End your week by checking out the biggest fireworks show in the region with Friday Night Fireworks following every Friday home game.

Florida Georgia Line: Can't Say I Ain't Country Tour (Coastal Credit Union Music Park, 3801 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh) - The band plays Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh on Friday.
Nelly, TLC, and Flo Rida (Coastal Credit Union Music Park, 3801 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh) - Take a trip to the 90s and early 2000s with this show at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh on Saturday.

Annie (Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, 2 E. South St., Raleigh) - Annie tells the story of a little orphan's next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. The show runs at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium from July 23 to 28.
Iration (Red Hat Amphitheater, 500 S. McDowell St., Raleigh) - All members of Iration, a sunshine reggae group, hail from Hawaii. They'll perform in downtown Raleigh on Friday night.
Just Fine: The Mary J. Blige Tribute Band (The Pour House Music Hall, 224 S Blount St, Raleigh) - This Friday show celebrates the music of Mary J. Blige.
The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs (Durty Bull Brewing Company, 206 Broadway St Ste 104, Durham) - The folk group is from Winston-Salem. See their free performance Saturday in Durham.

Comedy

Between2Clouds Comedy Night (The Cotton Company, 306 S. White St., Wake Forest) - Enjoy 75 minutes of comedy from stand-up comics Friday night.

D.L. Hughley (Goodnight's Comedy Club, 861 W. Morgan St., Raleigh) - Known for being politically savvy in true comedian-style, Hughley dives head first into hot-button controversial topics with insightfully sharp observations and his signature rapid-fire jokes. He'll be at Goodnights all weekend.
Pauly Shore (Raleigh Improv, 1224 Parkside Main Street, Cary) - Pauly can be seen in The Weizel, Totally Pauly, the hit HBO series Entourage, Encino Man, Son-In-Law in The Army Now Jury Duty and Bio-Dome.

The industry-wide tasting practice gives coffee drinkers a way to distinguish and select the world's best coffees for their own tastes. Tickets are available.
Exploring Red Burgundy (Bar Brunello, 117 E Main St Ste B, Durham) - Red Burgundy is a renowned and beloved French wine. In this Saturday class, guests will be exposed to the different geographical areas of the Burgundy region and explore the world's best expression of Pinot Noir. Ponysaurus Brewing Co. Summer Movie Series (Ponysaurus Brewing Co., 219 Hood Street, Durham) - Ponysaurus hosts this free movie summer every Sunday on its patio with beer and $1 snacks.
Finally Friday: Despicable Me (N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, 11 West Jones Street, Raleigh) - Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. on Friday. There will be crafts, experiments, activities and food, along with an appearance by Alan Rich, a NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Solar System Ambassador, who will separate the facts from the fiction following the screening.
