Weekend best bets: Festivals, food trucks and Durham Bulls opener
It's a weekend of festivals across the Triangle, with spring celebrations, outdoor markets. craft beer and food trucks in Durham, Raleigh and Cary. Durham will also celebrate its 150th birthday and the first Durham Bulls game of the season as it recovers from Wednesday's deadly explosion and fire near Brightleaf Square.

It's a weekend of festivals across the Triangle, with spring celebrations, outdoor markets, craft beer and food trucks in Durham, Raleigh and Cary. Durham will also celebrate its 150th birthday and the first Durham Bulls game of the season as it recovers from Wednesday's deadly explosion and fire near Brightleaf Square.
Food and festivals
POSTPONED: Live and Local Spring Fest (Hillsborough Street near downtown Raleigh) - This festival is a free community festival presented by Artsplosure. On Saturday starting at noon, celebrate the unique art, music, food and beer of North Carolina with performances and craft activities, a food truck rodeo and craft beer.
Spring Fling Adult Egg Hunt at Dix Park (2105 Umstead Park, Raleigh) - This egg hunt is just for those 21 years and older! Race to grab 15,000 eggs then stay to enjoy inflatables and lawn games at Dix Park on Saturday. UPDATE: Event has been moved to May 18 due to weather.
Durham’s 150th Birthday Celebration (American Tobacco Campus, 318 Blackwell St., Durham) – The Bull City is turning 150 and city leaders are holding a party on Saturday to celebrate. There will be live music, prizes and even a “running of the bulls.” WRAL anchor Ken Smith will be emceeing.
Mid-Town Square Spring Festival (Bond Brothers Beer Company, 202 East Cedar Street, Cary) - Bond Brothers Beer Company in Cary hosts this festival starting at noon on Saturday. There will be new beer releases, food trucks, music and a kid's zone with face painting and a bounce house. Admission is free.
SpringFest at Mason Jar Lager Co. (305 South Main Street, Fuquay-Varina) - The fun kicks off at noon Saturday with German style lagers, food, music and dancing.
Glenwood Faire: A Taste of Glenwood South (Saint Saviour's Center, 616 Tucker St., Raleigh) - Enjoy samples of food, drink and products from Glenwood South businesses during this event Sunday at Saint Saviour's Center. The event will help raise money for The Diaper Train and Meals on Wheels.
Lebanese Festival (City Plaza, 400 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh) - Celebrate Lebanese culture with food, desserts, dancing and music on Saturday at this annual festival. Admission is free.
Downtown Cary Food & Flea (Fidelity Bank Plaza, 100 W. Chatham Street, Cary) - Check out local artisans, sample craft beer, dine on food truck cuisine and enjoy live music during this event on Sunday starting at noon at the Fidelity Bank Plaza.
Durham Pints for Paws (Durham Central Park, 502 Foster St., Durham) - Enjoy craft beer samples, food trucks and more fun on Saturday at this second annual event to benefit the Animal Protection Society of Durham. The fun starts at noon on Sunday at Durham Central Park. Tickets are still available.
Lonerider's 10th Anniversary Celebration (8816 Gulf Ct, Raleigh) - Help this Raleigh brewery celebrate its 10th birthday on Saturday with live music, food trucks, a photo booth and special beer releases including Peanut Butter Sweet Josie.
Tour de Brew (Crank Arm Brewing, 319 West Davie Street, Raleigh) - This charity cycling event starts off at Crank Arm Brewing on Saturday before heading to five other stops. All proceeds go to the event's non-profit partner Water for Good, which helps provide clean water in Central Africa.
Music, dance and comedy
Zac Brown Band (Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, 3801 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh) - The country star brings his "Down the Rabbit Hole" tour to Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek on Saturday night.
Derek Hough (DPAC, 123 Vivian St., Durham) - Dancer Derek Hough is bringing his first solo tour to Durham Performing Arts Center on Saturday night.
Death Cab For Cutie (Red Hat Amphitheater, 500 S. McDowell St., Raleigh) - The alternative rock band plays Red Hat Amphitheater Saturday night.
Marlon Wayans (Raleigh Improv, 1224 Parkside Main Street, Cary) - The actor, producer, comedian, writer and film director will play Friday and Saturday nights.
Chris D'Elia (DPAC, 123 Vivian St., Durham) - D’Elia is best known for his stand up and starring role on the NBC comedy series Undateable. See him on stage at Durham Performing Arts Center Friday night.
Desi Banks and Darren Brand (Goodnight's Comedy Club, 861 W. Morgan St., Raleigh) - These two comedians, actors and writers will perform Sunday.
More fun
Durham Bulls opening weekend (DBAP, 409 Blackwell St., Durham) - The two-time defending IL champion Durham Bulls hold this first home series of the 2019 season this weekend. Things kick off on Thursday night with the first home game of the season. Fourteen different food items will have discounted pricing, and stick around after the game for fireworks.
On Friday night there will be post-game fireworks and food trucks. Saturday the Bulls will help celebrate Durham's 150th birthday with special uniforms. On Sunday, Durham Bulls players and coaches will be signing autographs before the game. And children will be able to run the bases after the game.
Southern Women's Show (N.C. State Fairgrounds, Jim Graham Building, 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh) - Shop at hundreds of boutiques filled with the latest fashion, jewelry, gourmet food and more at this festival Friday through Sunday. Plus WRAL anchors, reporters and meteorologists will be on hand to say hello.
