RALEIGH, N.C. — Crews are clearing snow from the runways at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, but most flights to and from the airport are canceled Saturday.

Airport spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said in a release that Delta/Northwest Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest have canceled all departures from RDU Saturday. Other airlines will operate on a modified schedule in the afternoon.

Airlines anticipate returning to full schedules on Sunday.

Throughout the weekend, airport workers will be treating runways, taxiways and roads, Hamlin said.

Hamlin offered some advice for travelers who want to avoid fees for rescheduling their flights.

"Some airlines, during inclement weather, will allow some flexibility for passengers, allowing them to make changes to their travel plans without penalty," she said.

JetBlue and Delta/Northwest Airlines were allowing passengers to reschedule without penalty.

AAA recommends that travelers call their airlines to see what accommodations can be made, especially if there's significant snowfall.

"Call the airline and advise them, 'I can't get out of my driveway. I cannot get to the airport. I will not be making this flight,'" said Jodi Woolard, with AAA Vacations.
