A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Vance and Warren counties until 9:45 p.m. Sunday. The storm system is moving towards Halifax County.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A severe-thunderstorm warning was issued Sunday for two North Carolina counties.

The warning is in effect for Vance and Warren counties until 9:45 p.m. The storm system is moving towards Halifax County and could bring large hail, gusty winds and lightning.

Sunday's high was 91 degrees. Partly cloudy skies are expected overnight with lows falling into the 70s.

The heat and a chance of storms will continue into the week. Highs will linger in the mid 90s, and there is a slight chance of scattered showers through Friday.
