By 5 p.m. Thursday, some damage and vehicle wrecks were reported as a result of bad weather. In Raleigh, a tree fell at
Lead Mine Road and Iris Drive
due to strong winds in the area. Raleigh police reported numerous wrecks, but none with serious injuries.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed over the foothills ahead of a cold front, the National Weather Service said. The storm system that came through the area has a history of producing severe weather over the past few days to the west.

, the main threats were from damaging wind gusts, large hail and possibly tornadoes.
