RALEIGH, N.C. — Minor damage and some vehicle accidents were blamed on severe weather Thursday afternoon.

By 5 p.m. Thursday, some damage and vehicle wrecks were reported as a result of bad weather. In Raleigh, a tree fell at

Lead Mine Road and Iris Drive

due to strong winds in the area. Raleigh police reported numerous wrecks, but none with serious injuries.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed over the foothills ahead of a cold front, the National Weather Service said. The storm system that came through the area has a history of producing severe weather over the past few days to the west.

According to the

WRAL WeatherCenter

, the main threats were from damaging wind gusts, large hail and possibly tornadoes.
