The National Hurricane Center has named the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico Potential Tropical Cyclone #2. It is not a tropical system yet but they went ahead and started issuing advisories because of two things, their confidence is high that this will become Barry and two, its close proximity to land. It's an excellent idea to get the word out about this storm before if rapidly develops into a hurricane close to land. It is expected to become a Category One hurricane by Friday with top winds right now forecast at 85 mph. As of this time there will be no impact to North Carolina. If that changes we will let you know. @WRALWeather
