... for a record number of Atlantic Tropical Cyclone Names from the amazingly active 2005 storm season. Damages and casualties associated with Hurricanes Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma led to the removal of those names from the 2011 list, at which time they would otherwise have been re-used. The replacement names for these high-impact storms will be Don, Katia, Rina, Sean and Whitney. Retirement of five storms in one season is a new record, with three previous years having resulted in four retirements.
