Snow will start the day, spreading from North Texas and Oklahoma to Missouri. Bridges and overpasses will be the first to turn slippery. The snow will continue to expand over the lower Midwest into Monday night, allowing snow and colder air to extend across the Plains in the storm’s wake. The cold air will cause temperatures to fall throughout the day across the southern Plains. Brisk winds across the central states will make it feel even colder.

On the warmer side of the storm, rain and thunderstorms will soak a large part of the South. Some of the rain may be heavy at times, which could result in flash flooding in low-lying areas and spots with poor drainage.

The Northeast will be dry ahead of the storm. Temperatures will remain below normal for mid-November.

Chilly air will prevail across the Rockies. Any lingering flurries or snow showers in the southern Rockies should gradually diminish. The West Coast will continue to be dry, with gusty winds keeping the fire danger high across parts of California. Smoke may cause poor air quality well away from where the blazes are burning.

Focus: Snow Expands to Northern New England

Slippery travel conditions are expected as snow stretches from Missouri to the eastern Great Lakes and northern New England later Monday through late Tuesday. Expect 1 to 3 inches of accumulation in most spots, with wet to slushy roadways. More than 6 inches of snowfall will cover northern Maine.
