A nor’easter will bring rain, localized flooding, above-normal tides and strong coastal winds in the Northeast on Saturday. The storm may affect travel and will cause miserable outdoor conditions. Snow and a wintry mix will be limited to higher elevations in the north. Winds may be strong enough to knock down trees and cause sporadic power outages. Lighter showers are expected in the wake of the storm in the southern Appalachians and the eastern part of the Ohio Valley. On the tail end of the storm, rain and thunderstorms will depart South Florida ahead of a push of cooler and less humid air.

Farther to the northwest, another storm will bring a bit of rain in the northern Plains. Some wet snow may mix in as this storm pushes to the southeast across the Midwest later this weekend. Gusty winds will move to the southwest in the wake of the storm over the Plains on Saturday night and Sunday.

In the Northwest, a storm over the Gulf of Alaska will spin clouds and showers onshore to the western parts of Washington, Oregon and Northern California. Much of the rest of the country should expect dry weather and plenty of sunshine.

FOCUS: Nor’easter Impacts Coastal Northeast

A nor’easter heading up the Atlantic Coast will bring heavy rain and strong winds mainly to coastal areas of the Northeast through Saturday night. Some of the rain will bring flooding, and strong winds will cause high surf and beach erosion in addition to some power outages.
