Rain from Sergio will spread from northern Mexico to the southern Plains. Sergio was once a powerful hurricane over the eastern Pacific. Enough rain may fall on parts of the region to cause flash flooding.

Farther north, a blast of colder air is forecast to press south over the Rockies and northern Plains. The cold air will produce a periodic moderate to heavy snow that advances south. Record-challenging low temperatures are expected to follow the snow this weekend.

West of the Rockies, a batch of clouds and spotty showers will dampen areas from Southern California to much of Arizona. Areas farther north to Oregon and Washington can expect dry weather.

FOCUS: Dry After Michael

Cleanup and recovery work in the aftermath of Michael will benefit from dry weather Saturday and Sunday. Highs will range from 65 to 70 in upstate North Carolina to 85 to 90 in northwest Florida. Early next week will turn warmer and humid.
