Aside from spotty showers around the eastern Great Lakes, much of the Northeast can expect a dry and mild autumn weekend. Fog that started the day in the valleys will yield to some afternoon sunshine. A few places over the northern tier may have frost at night.

While some cool air will settle over the southern Appalachians, warm and humid conditions are forecast to hold on over the Deep South today. A stretch of clouds, showers and thunderstorms will extend from the Carolina and Georgia coasts to central and southern Texas. A few storms are forecast for the Florida Peninsula, but most of the day will be dry.

Another swath of clouds and showers will span from the central Plains and upper Mississippi Valley to the northern Rockies. Much of the rainfall in this zone will be intermittent and light.

The West can expect dry weather and a good deal of sunshine. However, as moisture begins to move in from the Pacific Ocean, showers will dampen coastal areas from Northern California to Washington. Hurricane Rosa will slide offshore of Mexico this weekend but is forecast to cause heavy rain and flooding in parts of the Southwest early next week.

Focus: Latest on the Carolina River Flooding

While many rivers have dropped below major flood stage, the Waccamaw River near Conway, South Carolina, is expected to remain above the previous record crest level of nearly 18 feet through Tuesday. After thunderstorms Saturday, the flood areas will be largely dry next week.
