Dry and slightly cooler air is expected to bring an end to the recent rain over much of the Plains. High pressure will build south.

Most of the West can expect fire weather to continue, with blazing sunshine and above-average temperatures. A pocket of moisture is expected to produce spotty thunderstorms over the interior Southwest. A few of these storms could bring blowing dust, flash flooding and strong winds. In areas where the storms do not produce rain, lightning strikes may ignite new wildfires.

FOCUS: Hurricane Lane May Affect Hawaii

Hurricane Lane may affect parts of Hawaii late this week. The storm is expected to turn more northwest and gradually weaken on Thursday and Friday. This will result in rain and strong winds across the western islands, including Kauai.
