Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Mid-Atlantic into southern New England. Slow-moving and heavy thunderstorms are possible, which could result in flash flooding. Some of the heavy rain may work its way into northern New England late in the day or at night.

Showers and thunderstorms will also stretch across the Southeast. Strong thunderstorms may produce damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. Rainfall may result in local flash flooding, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

Stormy weather will also affect the southern Plains Sunday with numerous heavy thunderstorms rumbling across Texas into western Oklahoma, Arkansas and northern Louisiana. Thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts and hail. In contrast, the northern Plains will be sunny and dry with triple-digit heat likely across the western Dakotas.

In the southern Rockies, thunderstorms are expected to develop and become widespread during the afternoon and evenings before diminishing overnight. Farther to the west, California will remain dry with its sky obscured in smoke and haze.

Focus: Wet Pattern to Persist in East

There is no end in sight to the wet weather pattern that has been plaguing the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast since mid-July. A slow-moving storm system will bring frequent downpours to the region through midweek, and a new system may bring more rain by next weekend.
