Dry and sunny conditions will continue Friday from the Ohio Valley to New England. Temperatures are expected to rise into the weekend. Moisture will linger over the south-central states and the Southeast, where showers and storms are expected along with hot and humid conditions. A dry air mass will keep Tropical Rainstorm Beryl off the coast. If the system strengthens, rough surf conditions may resume for a time this weekend.

Drenching showers and gusty thunderstorms will extend from northern Michigan to Nebraska, which may result in flooding in spots. The storms will occur along the edge of a hot and humid air mass as it briefly gives way to cooler air.

In the West, thunderstorms will bring sporadic flash flooding from southeastern California to Colorado and New Mexico. Most of the storms will pass just east of California, and some of them will produce little to no rainfall. Lightning strikes from these storms may lead to new wildfires. Gusty winds could also produce areas of blowing dust. Sunshine, heat and dry conditions are in the forecast for the Northwest, where the risk of wildfires is expected to rise.

FOCUS: Monsoon Thunderstorms Persist

Moist air will remain in place across the interior Southwest through the weekend, resulting in widespread thunderstorms across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. Storms are most likely to develop in the afternoon and evening.
