A vast area of sunshine and less humid air will extend from the Midwest and Northeast on Saturday. While strong July sunshine will erase the cool air during the midday and afternoon hours, the day will be noticeably cooler when compared with recent days and the air will cool substantially during the evening.

In the South, some cooler and less humid air is forecast to make its presence known over the interior. Hot and humid conditions with rain showers and heavier thunderstorms are in store from central Texas to the southern Atlantic coast. In this pattern, any downpour can unleash flash flooding. In addition, a tropical storm may brew off the coast of the Carolinas this weekend and could further enhance rainfall, while causing surf to build.

Heat will begin to build over the northern and central Plains and continue over much of the West. Moisture from Mexico will create higher humidity levels and developing thunderstorms over the interior Southwest. Some of the storms have the potential to cause frequent lightning strikes and flash flooding. Showers will dampen coastal Washington state.

Meanwhile, over the southern Atlantic, Hurricane Beryl is forecast to approach the Caribbean later this weekend.

Focus: Building Heat in the Central U.S.

A strong area of high pressure will shield the central United States from thunderstorms in the coming days. Heat and humidity will increase both Sunday and Monday from the central Plains into the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys.
