Tropical moisture will continue to fuel heavy showers and thunderstorms on Sunday across the Florida Peninsula into the Southeast. Heavy downpours are likely to lead to localized flooding across Florida into Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Showers and thunderstorms will be more spotty across Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and southern Wisconsin, but drenching rain that results in flooding is possible in some areas.

Showers and spotty afternoon thunderstorms are likely across much of New England southward into coastal areas of the Mid-Atlantic states. High pressure will build across New England and create drier weather at night.

In the West, showers and thunderstorms will pop up across parts of Northern California, eastern Oregon and northern Virginia, especially during the afternoon, developing first over the higher mountainous terrain and then drifting over the valley locations. Spotty showers and thunderstorms will also develop, mainly in the afternoon, across Utah and Colorado. In West Texas, thunderstorms are likely to erupt during the heat of the afternoon.

FOCUS: Drier Weather Ahead for the Northeast

After several bouts of heavy rain and thunderstorms in New England and the Mid-Atlantic, a temporary change in the pattern will allow warmer and drier weather to return by midweek. Flooded streams and rivers will finally have a chance to recede.
