Much of the Northeast can expect dry weather Friday. High pressure will push east across Quebec, bringing cool air and keeping heat to the south at bay.

Drenching rain and gusty thunderstorms will move east along the southern edge of the high-pressure system, over the Upper Midwest. Enough rain may fall to result in urban flooding.

Most areas from the Southeast coast to Arizona can expect sunshine and a hot afternoon.

A band of high pressure will extend west across the Gulf Coast. Tropical moisture will bring downpours to parts of South Florida in need of rain.

Rain will affect the northern Rockies. This may aggravate ongoing flooding, which has mainly been caused by melting snow over the intermediate and high elevations. Some spots could experience their worst flooding in decades.

Most of the Pacific Coast should be dry and sunny; the Rockies and the upper part of the Great Basin will be unsettled.

FOCUS: Heat Wave Saturday Into Monday

Parts of the Ohio Valley and the Southeast will be affected by an early-season heat wave starting Saturday and continuing into Monday. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and 90s in many spots, which may result in record highs.
