A storm will bring drenching rain Wednesday to much of New England. As the system moves northeast, the rain is expected to taper to showers over the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic states. It should ease in the upper part of the Mid-Atlantic and the central Appalachians by tonight. A wind off the ocean may increase the risk of minor coastal flooding at times of high tide along the upper Mid-Atlantic Coast and the New England Coast.

A mass of dry air is projected to bring some sunshine and warmth to much of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast Coast. High pressure will build over the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Rain and thunderstorms will extend from South and West Texas to much of Arkansas, southern Missouri, northern Louisiana and parts of Tennessee.

The western Great Lakes and the northern Plains can expect dry weather and some sunshine. High pressure will build east form South Dakota to Minnesota.

In the West, dry weather will prevail along with sunshine in most spots. Record-challenging warmth is expected for the Northwest, Northern California and parts of the Great Basin.

FOCUS: Warmth Expanding Into the Northeast

Warm air is expected to spread from the southern Plains into the Midwest and Northeast next week. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the 70s and 80s from the Ohio Valley to the interior Northeast on Tuesday and into Wednesday.
