A pleasantly dry, mild and sunny day will prevail across the Northeast and the Upper Midwest Monday. The storm system that recently brought soaking rain to the South will slowly move into the Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians.

In parts of the South affected by several days of heavy rain, the risk of flooding will increase. This may include the mountains of western North Carolina and much of the state of South Carolina. Gusty winds from the system will produce rough surf and dangerous rip currents along the shores of the Carolinas and Florida. In the wake of the storm, a sunny and warm day will prevail across the southern and central Plains.

A cold front moving south through the northern Rockies is expected to bring unsettled conditions to the region. While thunderstorms dot Colorado, northern Utah and much of Wyoming, northern Wyoming and Montana can expect a mix of rain and snow. Rain showers are expected late in the day across the western Dakotas. It will be breezy and cooler.

A mainly sunny and increasingly warm day is in the forecast for the West Coast and the Southwest.

FOCUS: Heavy Rain in Parts of the Southeast

Heavy rain and scattered, mainly minor flooding will affect much of the Southeast Monday and Monday night. Rainfall is expected to range from 1.5 to 3 inches across much of the region as the system approaches the East Coast. The wet weather will cause delays to ground and air traffic.
