The storm that brought snow to the North-Central states on Sunday will weaken Monday. This will result in spotty snow and rain across the Great Lakes and the Appalachians. The snow may be heavy in a few spots, reducing visibility. At night, the snow may coat some roads in Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas. Chilly air will prevail across the Midwest and the Northeast, with warmer conditions expected later in the week. A brisk breeze will increase the chill in northern New England.

The storm will also bring occasional rain to the Southeast, aiding firefighting efforts in the region. A few thunderstorms will affect North and Central Florida.

In the wake of the storm, cool air will move into the northern Plains. Temperatures will remain well below normal, but it will not be as cold as last week. A few rain showers will dot the central Plains.

High pressure will build across the West, providing dry and warmer conditions from California to Washington. Breezes are expected in the Desert Southwest.

Focus: Late Week Warming in the Middle Atlantic

Dramatic but brief warming is expected in the Middle Atlantic late in the week, resulting in highs of at least 70 to 80 degrees Friday. Lingering cool air farther north will keep temperatures from rising across much of New York state and New England.
