Light to moderate snow will spread Friday from the Great Lakes to upstate New York and central and northern New England. A mix of rain and wet snow is expected across parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and southern New England.

Most of the Southeast should be dry, with at least partial sunshine and a mild afternoon. A few rain showers may linger over the southern half of the Florida Peninsula. Downpours and severe storms may develop from the lower Mississippi Valley to central and coastal Texas. This may result in flooding, damaging winds and hail.

A storm is projected to bring snow from the northern Rockies to the central Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley. Heavy snow in the area may accumulate over 6 inches in spots, especially on unpaved surfaces. Roads will be slippery in areas where the snow falls at a very heavy pace or early in the day. The central Rockies to the southern Plains can expect spotty rain showers.

Much of the Southwest can expect a dry day. As moisture moves into the Pacific Coast, heavy rain is expected from Northern California to parts of Washington. This may result in flooding and mudslides.

FOCUS: Middle Atlantic Snow

A storm is expected to move from the southern Appalachians to the Middle Atlantic coast Saturday, allowing snow to spread from Kentucky to New Jersey. A few inches of snow may accumulate from West Virginia to southern New Jersey.
