Much of the eastern third of the United States can expect a dry day. A cold, north flow of air in the wake of the recent nor’easter will persist from northern New England to the Carolinas. This will result in a few snow showers downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario, in parts of Pennsylvania and New York.

A bit of snow will move southeast across the northern Plains and into parts of the Midwest. A wintry mix and rain will fall farther south, over the Plains. This precipitation will be the result of a storm originating in western Canada. The system is expected to move along a temperature contrast zone, with cold air to the northeast and building warmth to the southwest. The rain and snow should reach the Ohio Valley on Friday night.

In the West, valley rain showers and mountain snow showers are expected in the Rockies. The snow will mainly fall at or above pass levels. A storm over the Pacific Ocean will produce rain and mountain snow showers from western Washington to western Oregon and Northern California. Much of Southern California and the deserts can expect dry conditions, after a thorough soaking in Southern California on Wednesday and Thursday.

FOCUS: Snow Spreads Southeast on Saturday

A narrow band of moderate-to-heavy snow is expected to spread from Indiana to Virginia on Saturday into Saturday night. Several inches of snow may accumulate in Indianapolis and Cincinnati. As much as a foot may fall in the mountains of western Virginia.
