Snow will cover roads across the southern Appalachians early Monday and continue to expand across the southern Middle Atlantic. Where the snow is heavy, roads may turn slushy and slippery. A little snow will also spread into New York state by the end of the day. At night, the snowstorm will move into New England. As snow piles up into Tuesday, blizzard conditions will develop along the New England coast.

The storm will also produce increasing winds along the coast from North Carolina to New England through Tuesday. Seas will begin to build, increasing the risk of coastal flooding around high tide.

The system will bring rain showers and a few thunderstorms across the Southeast. Cool air will expand across the Gulf Coast in the storm’s wake.

Snow showers will move into the Midwest, while a high-pressure system keeps the Plains and most of the West dry. A few spotty showers will move into the California Coast from the Pacific. Temperatures will begin to rebound across the West. Record highs are expected to be challenged in the Pacific Northwest, with a partly sunny sky.

Focus: West Coast Storms This Week

Rain and mountain snow will affect California this week as multiple Pacific storms cross the coast beginning Tuesday. Sierra Nevada snowfall may exceed 3 feet. Welcome rain will fall at lower elevations into Southern California.
