A storm is expected to track Sunday from the Mississippi River Valley through the Tennessee River Valley and the Southeast. This storm will spread rain and thunderstorms from Louisiana and Arkansas to the Carolina coast and Florida. Rain is likely to be steadiest from Tennessee and northern Alabama through northern Georgia and the Carolinas.

On the north side of this storm, some sunshine will break out across the Northeast and the Midwest, where seasonably cool air will help to bring snow showers for parts of Minnesota to northern Missouri and Illinois. The remainder of the Plains will be dry, but breezy conditions are expected from Nebraska and Kansas southward to Texas.

Another storm will be stretching across the Southwest. This will bring rain showers from Southern California to New Mexico and far western Texas by the end of the day. Some snow showers will occur in the Sierras and the high terrain of northern New Mexico. High pressure will hold over the Pacific Northwest, keeping it dry from the Oregon and Washington coasts to the Dakotas. Mostly sunny conditions are expected across the region.

Focus: Warmth in Pacific Northwest

As chilly air dominates the eastern third of the country, mild air will build across the Northwest states early this week. A few communities may even set daily record highs. The warmth will be brief, however, as a new storm will bring cooler air to the region by midweek.
